Weeks 7, 8 & 9

Reading

1-1 corresponding. Self monitoring and correcting. Independently using strategies such as picture cues, sounding out, stretching and chunking unknown words. Using common blends when reading. Comprehending & making connections to the text, including inferential meaning and recalling key ideas. Attempting to paraphrase simple information. Understanding the different purposes of texts. Identifying elements of a non-fiction text. Reading for accuracy and meaning. Using punctuation to support phrasing and fluency. Identifying nouns, verbs and adjectives. Discussing language used to describe characters and settings.

Writing

Handwriting - upper and lower case Zz and revision of all other letters, correct spacing and formation of letters, correct pencil grip and body positioning.

Genres - recount, narrative, information report and letter writing.

Focus - capital letters, commas, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks and using adjectives. Providing details about ideas or events. Using strategies to reread, revise and edit writing.

Spelling

Revision of THRASS phonemes. Common sight words, independent use of classroom spelling resources.

Mathematics

Revision of:
Number - number recognition, place value, counting, addition, subtraction, grouping and sharing, recognising different ways of writing and making the same number.
Measurement - days of the week, capacity and mass.
Money - counting small collections of coins.
Geometry - mapping.
