Year 1 are balanced!
Welcome to Week 3 (which is week 2 on the timetable.)
This week we are focusing on being "balanced". The children have been asked to plan and prepare (with your help) a balanced meal for the family. This can be breakfast, lunch or dinner. They then need to take a photo of the meal on their iPad to share with the class. During Show and Share they can show their photo and share what meal they made and explain why it is a balanced meal.
Our excursion to Casey Safety Village is Wednesday 19th of February and it will form an important component of our current unit of inquiry - I'm In Charge.
The Casey Safety Village contains the Casey Safety Education Centre (CRSEC) and Country Fire Authority Learning Centre. It delivers road and fire safety educational programs to primary school children. The CRSEC is a mini version of Victorian Roads. The aim of the centre is to educate the community about road safety, in a safe, fun, controlled and positive learning environment. The CFA Learning Centre is a simulated home environment delivering a fire safety educational program by trained CFA staff. The program is designed to enable students to demonstrate strategies that deal with unsafe or emergency situations.
The children need to wear their sports uniform on the 19.2.14 and bring their drink bottle, snack and fruit in a small bag. Bikes and bike helmets are supplied by the Safety Village as part of the road safety lesson. The children are welcome to bring their own bike helmet but they must display and comply with the Australian Standard sticker, be in a safe condition and correctly adjusted. We will return to Cornish in time for lunch.
Speaking of lunch, our nude food classrooms are fast becoming a reality thanks to your support. The students are keen to make the whole school wrapper free and they have also been suggesting a variety of ways to stop the rubbish from blowing around the school. The Year 1s are committed to take action and they are planning on speaking with the EnviroTeam to discuss their concerns and to present at Assembly in the coming weeks.
Thank you to everyone who has returned their Parental Authority form for Term 1. If you haven't done so please return it as soon as possible. Thank you also to everyone who has volunteered to hear the children read, or is helping on the excursion or has made playdoh. Your time and effort is much appreciated.
The Cornish College Carnival is fast approaching. Please place your family donations of a block of chocolate, a packet of jelly lollies (for lolly sticks) and a lucky jar in the box outside each classroom.
